Scalpers

Magnetic Scalpers

A scalper is a device that lies above a mill and below a hopper. Material from the hopper falls into the scalper where a grate screens out oversized foreign matter from the product going into the mill. A rotating rake is used to move the foreign matter off of the grate and out the front of the scalper to keep the scalper from becoming blocked. As an extra safety measure, each scalper is also equipped with a rack of magnets to catch most metal items that might accidentally find their way into the product. The magnet rack can be easily removed for regular cleaning and maintenance.

Features:

  • A mounting bracket designed to fit any brand of mill.
  • A screening chute to direct foreign matter removed by the grate away from the mill.

Choices:

  • Available scalper widths of 12”, 18”, 24”, 30” and 36”
  • A hopper with the grain level controlled by either proximity switches or gravity feed from an overhead bin.
  • A top shut off gate operated either manually or electrically.
  • A rotating rake powered by either standard electrical or explosion-proof electrical motor.
  • An adjustable grate with customizable spacing of ½” or 3/8” being standard with additional options for spacing available upon request.

Options:

  • A switch to indicate when the product has finished feeding through the scalper.
  • An electric or pneumatic linear actuator activated by proximity switch that closes when the bin is full or runs out of whole grain.

Roll Feed Scalper

A roll feed scalper is a specialized variation of the magnetic scalper that lies above a mill without a feed roll of its own and below a hopper. After falling through the grate, the product is held inside the roll feed scalper as a feed roll built into the scalper delivers a controlled flow of product into the mill below. The feed roll is driven by a VFD (variable frequency drive).

Features:

  • A mounting bracket designed to fit any brand of mill.
  • A screening chute to direct foreign matter removed by the grate away from the mill.

Choices:

  • Available scalper widths of 12”, 18”, 24”, 30”, 36” or 42”.
  • A hopper with the grain level controlled by either proximity switches or gravity feed from an overhead bin.
  • A top shut off gate.
  • A rotating rake powered by the feed roll.
